Locator

FediHood is a fediverse app to discover and talk with people near you. The locator bot puts your account on its map: attest your city by direct message and the locals can find and follow you.

Search this handle in your client, open a direct message and say hello. Commands only work in direct messages.

How it works

Commands

Say hello first, then send a place name. The bot answers with numbered candidates, and your city is set by replying to that message with a number. The whole exchange lives in that reply thread.

hello, start

Introduce yourself and unlock the commands.

a place name

Up to five numbered candidates, or a single proposal. A small place comes with a larger suggestion nearby.

1 to 5, or ok

Reply to the candidate list with its number, that reply is what saves the city.

Privacy

What the bot stores

A city, not a position

The anchor is a city snapped to a grid of about 11 km. No exact coordinates, no GPS.

Direct messages only

Only private commands are processed. A public mention gets a single private warning.

Shown on request only

Remote accounts appear on the map only when a reader switches to the Remote filter, and the city line only on the profile page.

Clear anytime

clear removes the city. No expiry, no reminders.

One change per 30 days

A city can change once every 30 days. After clear, only the date of the last change is kept.
